Social Justice: International
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice and
untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”
God, a long time ago, today, and tomorrow
Isaiah 58: 6-7
Trinity is committed to active and extensive involvement in Rwanda. Why go all the way to Central Africa, you might ask? Jesus calls us to "go" and serve those in need, and we believe that we should be willing to go where the need is the greatest. Something is inherently 'right' about partnering one of the wealthiest communities in the world with one of the poorest. Our dream is to help restore dignity to a nation one community at a time.
Why Rwanda?
Besides the obvious needs following their civil war and genocide - and because Rwanda is one of the poorest countries in one of the poorest parts of the world – Trinity Church initially chose the nation because we already had relationships with an Anglican Bishop there, and also with World Vision (www.worldvision.org), a Christian relief organization already doing extensive work there.
We believe that relationships are key to effective ministry, as we are connecting people to people, and not simply institutions. In addition, several individuals from our church community had been involved in a few major projects there, which enabled us to build upon an already existing foundation.
We hope that by continuing to visit and work in the country, we can build a bridge of authentic friendship between us. We seek to be a tangible expression of true Christian community by sharing in their struggles and identifying with their pain, while at the same time working shoulder to shoulder with our friends to restore their land and regain their dignity.
