Hillary Bercovici
Scholar-in-Residence

Hillary is currently in his seventh year as Trinity Institute’s Scholar-in-Residence. An Episcopal priest and pastoral psychotherapist, Hillary is a native New Yorker and former NYC-EMS Paramedic who worked in Harlem and the South Bronx before entering seminary and graduate school.

Following an interest in the integration of psychology, theology and medicine, Hillary served as a medical and psychiatric chaplain in the Brown University hospital system, completed a psychiatric residency (PGY-II & III) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, and received training in spiritual direction at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington, DC. Holding degrees in philosophy and divinity, he earned an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Psychology & Theology and maintains a part-time private practice of pastoral psychotherapy here in Greenwich.

Hillary’s work focuses on bringing the Bible alive and applying its wisdom in teaching, counseling, and spiritual direction. At Trinity Institute, his research focuses on translating the Christian faith into the language of post-Christian culture, encouraging couples in their marriages and helping foster the spiritual growth of leaders. When not teaching or counseling, Hillary supports the ministries of others, especially senior staff and lay leadership.

Hillary and his wife, Cilla, live in Greenwich, where Cilla is a math specialist at Convent of the Sacred Heart and a doctoral student in Educational Psychology. They have two grown daughters and share a great love of sailing on their recently restored 46 year-old Pearson sloop in Watch Hill, RI. In addition to recreational scuba diving, Hillary also enjoys fresh and salt water fly fishing.
